Checked out Whole Food’s Annual Taste of Thanksgiving, which is basically a show and taste of their fall product line (and the proceeds went to Kits Neighborhood House, so that’s a good thing).
For ten bucks a person, this is what we got:

Or, La Burger Cannibale Poutinesca, for fancy French people
The Poutine Burger is the latest *short lived* offering from Cannibal Cafe, my favourite burger joint in Vancouver.
I’m not going to say much about this, but I would like to note that pretty much every variation I’ve seen of the Caesar online and in print, I’ve never seen onion rings included as a garnish.
Waiting to see the World’s End (single line review: “Best capper to the Cornetto trilogy possible and exceeded all (high) expectations.”. For a longer (and better analysis), Devin Faraci over at Badass Digest is the guy to go to both here and here. You really should go see it.) we popped into the Factory on Granville for a couple pre-movie beers and food. And the Famous Anaconda…

The other night, I had the pleasure of putting down a couple bucks (okay, I hit the magical ‘buy’ button on my phone) and grabbed some tix for Vancouver Foodster’s latest Tasting Plates crawl: East Van Edition (Actually, six of the seven participating restaurants were all on Commercial Drive (the one exception being Via Tevere Pizzeria on Victoria). We had already been to most of the restaurants participating, but looking at the tasting menu involved, we thought this would be a good chance to check out some of the dishes we weren’t familiar with. Here is my very quick, brief, and poorly photographed version of the events that followed:
FRAY on FRASER » Page not found. << Radio silence has begun.
Really sad. Only had a chance to eat there the once, but loved it a lot. Excellent, fun food with a good atmosphere. Spent most of the evening playing movie trivia, drawing tattoos on the Henry Rollin’s place mat, and eating a damn fine burger.
According to a message on their facebook page (which now appears to be taken down), the closure is due to a ‘partnership dispute’.
Hopefully, whatever the issues are, they can be settled amicably and get the restaurant opened again.
I just want to say: If you’re going to have bacon, eggs, and home fries, why not add extra bacon by CONSTRUCTING THE INSTRUMENT OF DELIVERY OUT OF BACON?
It’s Genius, really. And not that fake kind of genius that Louis C.K. talks about. No. This is capital G Genius.
Adeline’s Cafe on Commercial Drive. They need no website, so check out their facebook page instead. And get a bowl made out of bacon.

Looking at this exhaustive list, all I can say is: Really?
Earl’s is on that list a whole lotta times, along with Cactus Club (Best Salad and Appetizer?) and the Boathouse. Really?
Granville Island for best local microbrewery and beer. REALLY?
Best Burger is Vera’s, Fatburger, White Spot? REALLY? (Ok, I’ll give them Romer’s, as they are pretty damn good. No Splitz or Cannibal Cafe though?)
Best Chicken is Nando’s? WTF?
I mean, some of the calls I get and make sense. There are some seriously good restaurants and pubs on the list and I’m happy for them (Yay St.Augistine’s, Biercraft, and Havana’s), but holy shit. In a food centric town like Vancouver, there is some seriously weak ass bullshit on this list.
Or I could just be talking out of my ass again.
A rainy, pissy day in Vancouver. Took shelter in Two Parrots and ordered the 2lb Burger (probably closer to 5lbs if you include all the accoutrements).
Two Parrots Perch & Grill (their website appears to be down. You can check out their Yelp page here) is located on the corner of Granville and Davie. I’ve know them mostly for karaoke and quick drinks in the afternoon, but I was curious about their 2lb burger. It’s sorta advertised on their front door, but not listed at all on their menu.
